Tucked between a quiet waterway and the steady hum of a major highway, one Maple Grove, MN property needed a better way to connect its space — safely, cleanly, and without disrupting the natural surroundings.
That’s where we came in.
At Allied Blacktop Co., we were called in to install a new asphalt road that would serve as a smooth-access path adjacent to what appeared to be either a large commercial property or a public facility. The location itself posed unique challenges, but with the right planning and execution, we delivered a clean, durable result that blended seamlessly into the site’s landscape.
Working With Water, Slope, and Structure
Most road builds aren’t flat, dry, or conveniently placed in a wide-open field. This one certainly wasn’t. The new road had to run parallel to both a pond and a major roadway — a tight corridor of sloped terrain with a lot of foot and vehicle traffic to consider.
One edge of the work zone was defined by a large concrete slab (possibly a parking structure or foundation), while the other tapered toward natural soil, brush, and protected watershed areas.
With those site conditions, our priority was to manage erosion.
We installed silt fencing along the work zone perimeter to keep sediment contained and protect nearby water features during excavation and paving.
The sloped grade meant we also had to carefully grade the sub-base to ensure proper drainage and long-term durability. Water runoff couldn’t be allowed to pool, either on the road or in adjacent landscaped zones, so we built the base with laser-focused precision.
From Grading to Asphalt: A Durable, Clean Finish

Once the foundation was prepped and stable, we installed the new asphalt surface, creating a crisp, black ribbon that ran the length of the property and connected key access points. The finish was smooth and solid — exactly what’s needed for both light vehicles and pedestrian use.
What may look simple from above actually required close coordination and smart transitions between the concrete edges and the landscaped surroundings. The road needed to be functional, but also integrate well with both the built and natural environment.
That’s a balance we’re always thinking about, especially in communities like Maple Grove, where green space is a high priority.
Built to Last — and Built With Care
This wasn’t just a basic repave.
It was a ground-up installation that had to work with sloped terrain, sensitive environmental areas, and existing infrastructure.
From grading and erosion control to asphalt compaction and finishing, every step was handled with care to ensure a result that will hold up to Minnesota’s seasons — and the demands of this unique site.
If you’re managing a municipal site or commercial property in Maple Grove or the surrounding area, and you’re looking for road or pathway solutions that are built to handle both function and environment, we’d be glad to take a look at your project.
