When the team at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Maple Grove, MN reached out to us at Allied Blacktop Co., their mission was clear: preserve and protect their parking lots and driveways before Minnesota’s freeze-thaw cycles could do more damage.
Crack sealing might not be the flashiest project, but for a busy community hub like this church, it’s one of the smartest preventative steps you can take—and timing is everything.
Getting Ahead of the Cold: A Proactive Approach
We arrived at the church early on the morning of October 9, 2025.
The fall air was crisp, and the sun was on our side—a perfect day for crack sealing. With temperatures ranging from 65º to 71ºF, the weather gave us the ideal window to complete the work efficiently and ensure the sealant cured properly.
Our crew got to work at 7:30 AM, first relocating a few vehicles that were still in the way and sectioning off the Main Parking Lot. We needed full access to safely clean, route, and seal the asphalt.
Our process is all about precision.
We started by blowing out and cleaning the cracks in the main lot—no shortcuts.
For the entrance and exit driveways, we not only routed and sealed the cracks, but also applied a layer of tissue paper over the hot elastomeric bituminous sealant. This step helps prevent tracking and ensures a smooth finish.
By mid-morning and again later in the afternoon, we checked in on the progress. Everything was setting up beautifully under the sunny skies. We finished by sealing cracks in both the Main and South Parking Lots, again using tissue paper for that clean, professional result.
More Than a Maintenance Project
Parking lots take a beating—especially here in Maple Grove, where weather swings can be brutal. Cracks left untreated will widen with water infiltration, then turn into potholes after winter.
That’s why we emphasize routine maintenance like crack sealing for all our commercial and institutional clients.
For St. Joseph the Worker, this wasn’t just a seasonal touch-up.
It was an investment in the safety, appearance, and longevity of their property. The church serves hundreds of parishioners each week, and a well-maintained lot helps make a great first impression—and keeps asphalt repairs from becoming more expensive down the line.
A Word from the Client
Roger Pocta, the church’s Owner’s Representative, summed it up perfectly:
“The Allied Blacktop crew did a thorough and professional job.”
That’s the standard we aim for on every project, no matter the size.
